Champagne Coste-Folcher
A promissing student
Pioneer of Ecological Viticulture in Champagne
Viticulture/Oenology instructor in Champagne until 2003 in Champagne at the Lycée Viticole, Arnaud GAVIGNET was an actor of the Champagne world wine.
Among the various classes, one student in particular proved to be particularly gifted, with a particular sensitivity for an environmentally friendly culture (a concept quite innovative in Champagne at that time).
As a winemaker in the Marne Valley, she reveals her talent in making fresh, fine and delicate champagnes which express all the sensitivity of a feminine style. It was only natural that the exploitation of the plot was confined to her.
The rebirth
COSTE-FOLCHER Champagnes: A Commitment to Finesse and Excellence
COSTE-FOLCHER Champagnes joined the activities of our Domaine in 2016: This historical and mythical house, originally from Epernay, was dormant since 2005. Indeed, Champagne COSTE-FOLCHER, the flagship brand of the Group Marne et Champagne was not maintained commercially active by the Group Boizel Chanoine Champagne when it purchases the Group Marne et Champagne in 2005. In 2006, the Group Boizel Chanoine Champagne acquires LANSON Champagnes and becomes LANSON-BCC. In 2016, we obtained the agreement from LANSON-BCC to commercialise this brand.
Thanks to a partnership, our plot is led by a young winemaker. The estate, located in the Marne Valley is managed in sustainable viticulture (regulated label). The production is then champagnised to obtain a Champagne Royal Blue, extra brut non vintage and a Champagne Royal Star, extra brut vintage. The choice made to offer extra brut champagnes (undosed – less than 6g/ L of sugar) offers fresh, citrus and fine champagnes. These unique and limited cuvées, extra brut, are similar to the Champagne brut nature or brut zéro dosage.
The historical inheritage
COSTE-FOLCHER Champagnes: Noble Roots and Exceptional Terroirs
The original date of creation of the company Champagne COSTE-FOLCHER is not clearly established, but there is trace of a Sir Jean-Baptiste COSTE-FOLCHER, trader in Wines of Champagne, in the region of AISNE in 1875. The COSTE-FOLCHER Champagnes then settled in EPERNAY. The cellars were completely destroyed in 1911 during the revolt of the winemakers of Champagne. This Champagne House is taken over by a very old family of the Champenoise nobility and becomes Champagne COSTE-FOLCHER – Gabriel d’ARRAS, successor. After the Second World War, the brand was re- established Champagne COSTE-FOLCHER then passed on to belong successively to the Group BURTIN and then to the Group MARNE ET CHAMPAGNE.
Our vineyard, located in the Marne Valley on beautiful soft limestone and clay-loam soils, produces great champagnes imbued with elegance and finesse.
